Sve je veća zabrinutost može li varijanta B.1.1.7, koja je prvi put otkrivena u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, uzrokovati više infekcija kod djece.
Laboratorijske studije sugeriraju da varijanta B.1.1.7 ima mutaciju koja olakšava virusu da se prikvači za naše stanice i izazove infekciju - što bi moglo biti razlog zašto više djece obolijeva od te bolesti.
Stoga je brzo cijepljenje odraslih koji su u blizini ili žive s djecom presudno. Djeca su tijekom pandemije uglavnom pošteđena, vjerojatno zato što se koronavirus teže veže za receptore u njihovim stanicama u usporedbi s odraslima.
No, laboratorijske studije ne govore cijelu priču, kažu stručnjaci, i važno je sagledati i druge čimbenike koji sudjeluju u ovoj igri.

Nejasno je koliko mladi ljudi lako šire COVID-19 drugima, ali stručnjaci se slažu da odraslima koji provode vrijeme ili žive s djecom koja riskiraju izloženost treba dati prioritet za cijepljenje.
Štite ih nerazvijeni sinusi
Naime, dječji sinusi su nerazvijeni i imaju manje ACE-2 receptora (mjesto na kojem se koronavirus veže za naše stanice) nego odrasli. Stručnjaci vjeruju da su zato djeca zaštićena od ozbiljnog oblika COVID-19.
Prema dr. Jayu Levyu, virologu i profesoru medicine sa Sveučilišta Kalifornija u San Franciscu, laboratorijske studije sugeriraju da se varijanta B.1.1.7 može s više snage pričvrstiti na ACE-2 receptore nego ranije varijante virusa.
"Ako je ovo virus koji se veže s puno robusnijom prirodom, tada može imati manje prostora za vezivanje i još uvijek zaražavati", rekao je Levy. Ova bi teorija mogla objasniti pogoršanje slučajeva među mlađim ljudima, ali vjerojatno su u igri i drugi čimbenici.
Posljednjih je tjedana više ljudi posjećivalo razna poduzeća i putovalo između država.

Čak i ako više djece ima pozitivan test nego što je to bilo u prethodnim valovima, to bi jednostavno moglo biti zato što određena područja imaju veću prevalenciju SARS-CoV-2, kao što sugerira istraživanje iz Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva.
Ako djeca imaju veće šanse da obole od varijante B.1.1.7, Levy kaže da je važno pitati se imaju li sada tešku bolest ili simptome prehlade.
Najnoviji podaci pokazuju da B.1.1.7 nije promijenio stopu hospitalizacije u djece i da ozbiljni oblik COVID-19 rijetko pogađa djecu.

"Ne vidim da je virulentniji", rekao je dr. Levy, napominjući da je nepoznato koliko se djece koja se zaraze COVID-19 stvarno i razboli.
Ako djeca dobiju blažu infekciju poput prehlade, nejasno je mogu li i kako prenijeti virus drugima, kaže Levy. Može li se blaža infekcija kod djeteta proširiti i izazvati tešku bolest kod odrasle osobe u riziku?
"Moguće je, ali mi to ne znamo", rekao je Levy.
Ako djeca žive s ranjivijima
Također je posve moguće da dječji imunološki sustav bude dovoljno robustan da kontrolira virus i spriječi širenje mnogih mutacija. Jedno je jasno: brzo cijepljenje odraslih koji su oko djece presudno je.
"Oni ljudi kojima djeca dolaze kući trebaju se cijepiti", ističe dr. Gandhi.
Prema njenim rječima države su prioritet dale cijepljenju onima koji su najosjetljiviji na COVID-19.

CDC pokazuje, naime, da je 77 posto starijih od 65 godina i više cijepljeno, ali briga džava treba biti usmjerena na proširivanje prava na sve odrasle.

Sve je veća zabrinutost može li varijanta B.1.1.7, koja je prvi put otkrivena u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, uzrokovati više infekcija kod djece.
Laboratorijske studije sugeriraju da varijanta B.1.1.7 ima mutaciju koja olakšava virusu da se prikvači za naše stanice i izazove infekciju - što bi moglo biti razlog zašto više djece obolijeva od te bolesti.
Stoga je brzo cijepljenje odraslih koji su u blizini ili žive s djecom presudno. Djeca su tijekom pandemije uglavnom pošteđena, vjerojatno zato što se koronavirus teže veže za receptore u njihovim stanicama u usporedbi s odraslima.
No, laboratorijske studije ne govore cijelu priču, kažu stručnjaci, i važno je sagledati i druge čimbenike koji sudjeluju u ovoj igri.
Čini se da varijanta B.1.1.7 ne uzrokuje teže bolesti kod djece, pa čak i u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu velika većina mladih ljudi koji obole od varijante imaju blage simptome.

Nejasno je koliko mladi ljudi lako šire COVID-19 drugima, ali stručnjaci se slažu da odraslima koji provode vrijeme ili žive s djecom koja riskiraju izloženost treba dati prioritet za cijepljenje.
Štite ih nerazvijeni sinusi
Naime, dječji sinusi su nerazvijeni i imaju manje ACE-2 receptora (mjesto na kojem se koronavirus veže za naše stanice) nego odrasli. Stručnjaci vjeruju da su zato djeca zaštićena od ozbiljnog oblika COVID-19.
Prema dr. Jayu Levyu, virologu i profesoru medicine sa Sveučilišta Kalifornija u San Franciscu, laboratorijske studije sugeriraju da se varijanta B.1.1.7 može s više snage pričvrstiti na ACE-2 receptore nego ranije varijante virusa.
"Ako je ovo virus koji se veže s puno robusnijom prirodom, tada može imati manje prostora za vezivanje i još uvijek zaražavati", rekao je Levy. Ova bi teorija mogla objasniti pogoršanje slučajeva među mlađim ljudima, ali vjerojatno su u igri i drugi čimbenici.
Posljednjih je tjedana više ljudi posjećivalo razna poduzeća i putovalo između država.
COVID-19 je sada možda rašireniji u zajednicama koje imaju niže stope procijeljenosti i nizak imunitet stanovništva.

Čak i ako više djece ima pozitivan test nego što je to bilo u prethodnim valovima, to bi jednostavno moglo biti zato što određena područja imaju veću prevalenciju SARS-CoV-2, kao što sugerira istraživanje iz Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva.
Ako djeca imaju veće šanse da obole od varijante B.1.1.7, Levy kaže da je važno pitati se imaju li sada tešku bolest ili simptome prehlade.
Najnoviji podaci pokazuju da B.1.1.7 nije promijenio stopu hospitalizacije u djece i da ozbiljni oblik COVID-19 rijetko pogađa djecu.
Stopa pedijatrijskih hospitalizacija iznosila je 1,9 na 100 000 hospitalizacija 1. siječnja 2021. i 1,4 na 100 000 hospitalizacija 1. travnja 2021., prema podacima dobivenim iz HHS Protect Public Data Hub-a.
Koliko ih se zaraženih stvarno i razboli?
"Kod mlađih od 18 godina nema dokaza o pojavi češćih slučajeva ozbiljne bolesti", rekla je dr. Monica Gandhi, specijalistica za zarazne bolesti i profesorica na Sveučilištu Kalifornija u San Franciscu.
Inačica s kojom je lakši prijenos prirodno bi dovela do više slučajeva i u konačnici do više smrtnih slučajeva - no čini se da klinički tijek s pouzdanim izvorom u bolesti uzrokovanoj B.1.1.7 nije drugačiji.

"Ne vidim da je virulentniji", rekao je dr. Levy, napominjući da je nepoznato koliko se djece koja se zaraze COVID-19 stvarno i razboli.
Ako djeca dobiju blažu infekciju poput prehlade, nejasno je mogu li i kako prenijeti virus drugima, kaže Levy. Može li se blaža infekcija kod djeteta proširiti i izazvati tešku bolest kod odrasle osobe u riziku?
"Moguće je, ali mi to ne znamo", rekao je Levy.
Ako djeca žive s ranjivijima
Također je posve moguće da dječji imunološki sustav bude dovoljno robustan da kontrolira virus i spriječi širenje mnogih mutacija. Jedno je jasno: brzo cijepljenje odraslih koji su oko djece presudno je.
"Oni ljudi kojima djeca dolaze kući trebaju se cijepiti", ističe dr. Gandhi.
Prema njenim rječima države su prioritet dale cijepljenju onima koji su najosjetljiviji na COVID-19.
"Moramo zaštititi ranjive, posebno ako su djeca više vani i ako žive s ranjivima", objasnila je Gandhi i dodala "Na dobrom smo putu"..

CDC pokazuje, naime, da je 77 posto starijih od 65 godina i više cijepljeno, ali briga džava treba biti usmjerena na proširivanje prava na sve odrasle.
Naime, pokazalo se da kada su Izrael i Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo koji su teško pogođeni varijantom B.1.1.7, pojačali cijepljenje, slučajevi COVID-19 naglo su počeli padati.
