Klimatske promjene i globalno zagrijavanje razlozi su zbog kojih će se novi patogeni udomaćiti na Starom kontinentu

Bolesti koje prenose komarci, poput malarije i denga groznice, sve se više šire svijetom, osobito Europom, ponajviše zbog klimatskih promjena i globalnog zagrijavanja koji su insektima omogućili toplije i vlažnije uvjete za život.

Španjolska profesorica i znanstvenica Rachel Lowe kaže kako će se epidemije bolesti koje prenose komarci tijekom sljedećih nekoliko desetljeća proširiti na trenutačno nezahvaćene dijelove sjeverne Europe, Azije, Sjeverne Amerike i Australije, piše Jutarnji list.

- Globalno zatopljenje znači da prijenosnici bolesti mogu pronaći dom u više regija gdje ljudi nisu imunološki otporni, a sustavi javnog zdravstva vjerojatno su nepripremljeni za, primjerice, malariju i denga groznicu. Surova realnost je takva da će sve duže vruće sezone povećati okvir za širenje bolesti koje prenose komarci - upozorava Lowe.

Denga primarno pogađa tropske i suptropske regije jer niske temperature tijekom noći ubijaju ličinke i jajašca insekata. No duže vruće sezone mogle bi dovesti do toga da to postane virusna bolest koja će se najbrže širiti u svijetu, osobito Europi.

Invazivni azijski tigrasti komarac (Aedes albopictus), nositelj denga groznice, od 2023. godine udomaćio se u čak 13 europskih zemalja - Italiji, Francuskoj, Španjolskoj, Monaku, San Marinu, Gibraltaru, Lihtenštajnu, Švicarskoj, Njemačkoj, Austriji, Grčkoj i Portugalu te na Malti, piše The Guardian.

Opasnosti za kontinentalnu Europu

Broj slučajeva denga groznice prijavljenih Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji (WHO-u) porastao je osam puta u posljednja dva desetljeća, s 500.000 u 2000. na više od 5 milijuna u 2019. godini.

- Suše i poplave povezane s klimatskim promjenama mogu dovesti do većeg prijenosa virusa, pri čemu uskladištena voda pruža dodatna mjesta za razmnožavanje komaraca. Lekcije iz prethodnih epidemija trebale bi nas podsjetiti na važnost procjene budućih rizika od vektorskih bolesti. Važno je biti spreman za nepredviđene situacije - izjavila je Lowe.

- Ako emisije ugljika i broj stanovništva nastave rasti, broj ljudi koji žive u područjima s bolestima koje prenose komarci do kraja stoljeća udvostručit će se na 4,7 milijardi. S obzirom na ozbiljnost klimatskih promjena i nemogućnost sprečavanja istih, diljem kontinentalne Europe može se očekivati sve više slučajeva zaraze, ali i smrti od bolesti kao što su denga groznica i malarija - upozorila je znanstvenica Rachel Lowe.

Sabiha Essack, njezina kolegica i voditeljica jedinice za antimikrobnu otpornost na Sveučilištu KwaZulu-Natal u Južnoafričkoj Republici, dodala je kako klimatski slom također pojačava prijetnju od antimikrobne otpornosti.

- Klimatske promjene ugrožavaju ekološki i okolišni integritet živih sustava i omogućavaju patogenima da sve češće uzrokuju pojavu bolesti. Osim klimatskih promjena, i ljudske aktivnosti povezane s rastom stanovništva i transportom povećavaju otpornost na antibiotike te širenje vodenih i vektorskih bolesti ljudi, životinja i biljaka - rekla je.

Klimatske promjene i globalno zagrijavanje razlozi su zbog kojih će se novi patogeni udomaćiti na Starom kontinentu

Bolesti koje prenose komarci, poput malarije i denga groznice, sve se više šire svijetom, osobito Europom, ponajviše zbog klimatskih promjena i globalnog zagrijavanja koji su insektima omogućili toplije i vlažnije uvjete za život.

Španjolska profesorica i znanstvenica Rachel Lowe kaže kako će se epidemije bolesti koje prenose komarci tijekom sljedećih nekoliko desetljeća proširiti na trenutačno nezahvaćene dijelove sjeverne Europe, Azije, Sjeverne Amerike i Australije, piše Jutarnji list.

- Globalno zatopljenje znači da prijenosnici bolesti mogu pronaći dom u više regija gdje ljudi nisu imunološki otporni, a sustavi javnog zdravstva vjerojatno su nepripremljeni za, primjerice, malariju i denga groznicu. Surova realnost je takva da će sve duže vruće sezone povećati okvir za širenje bolesti koje prenose komarci - upozorava Lowe.

Denga primarno pogađa tropske i suptropske regije jer niske temperature tijekom noći ubijaju ličinke i jajašca insekata. No duže vruće sezone mogle bi dovesti do toga da to postane virusna bolest koja će se najbrže širiti u svijetu, osobito Europi.

Invazivni azijski tigrasti komarac (Aedes albopictus), nositelj denga groznice, od 2023. godine udomaćio se u čak 13 europskih zemalja - Italiji, Francuskoj, Španjolskoj, Monaku, San Marinu, Gibraltaru, Lihtenštajnu, Švicarskoj, Njemačkoj, Austriji, Grčkoj i Portugalu te na Malti, piše The Guardian.

Opasnosti za kontinentalnu Europu

Broj slučajeva denga groznice prijavljenih Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji (WHO-u) porastao je osam puta u posljednja dva desetljeća, s 500.000 u 2000. na više od 5 milijuna u 2019. godini.

- Suše i poplave povezane s klimatskim promjenama mogu dovesti do većeg prijenosa virusa, pri čemu uskladištena voda pruža dodatna mjesta za razmnožavanje komaraca. Lekcije iz prethodnih epidemija trebale bi nas podsjetiti na važnost procjene budućih rizika od vektorskih bolesti. Važno je biti spreman za nepredviđene situacije - izjavila je Lowe.

- Ako emisije ugljika i broj stanovništva nastave rasti, broj ljudi koji žive u područjima s bolestima koje prenose komarci do kraja stoljeća udvostručit će se na 4,7 milijardi. S obzirom na ozbiljnost klimatskih promjena i nemogućnost sprečavanja istih, diljem kontinentalne Europe može se očekivati sve više slučajeva zaraze, ali i smrti od bolesti kao što su denga groznica i malarija - upozorila je znanstvenica Rachel Lowe.

Sabiha Essack, njezina kolegica i voditeljica jedinice za antimikrobnu otpornost na Sveučilištu KwaZulu-Natal u Južnoafričkoj Republici, dodala je kako klimatski slom također pojačava prijetnju od antimikrobne otpornosti.

- Klimatske promjene ugrožavaju ekološki i okolišni integritet živih sustava i omogućavaju patogenima da sve češće uzrokuju pojavu bolesti. Osim klimatskih promjena, i ljudske aktivnosti povezane s rastom stanovništva i transportom povećavaju otpornost na antibiotike te širenje vodenih i vektorskih bolesti ljudi, životinja i biljaka - rekla je.
