U Jadranu je počelo prvo istraživanje Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova, zaštićenih morskih sisavaca čiji je život u Sredozemlju slabo poznat te njihovo obilježavanje satelitskim odašiljačima, a provodi ga međunarodni tim znanstvenika iz Hrvatske i Italije na otvorenom moru južnog Jadrana

Istraživanje je počelo na otvorenom moru južnog Jadrana 5. listopada, a znanstvenici ga provode s 14-metarskog katamarana "Coolway", izvijestili su u petak iz Instituta Plavi svijet iz Velog Lošinja.

Znanstvenici iz Instituta Plavi svijet, Hrvatskog prirodoslovnog muzeja, Zaklade CIMA (Italija) i Talijanskog instituta za zaštitu okoliša i istraživanje (ISPRA) će tijekom listopada pokušati pronaći Cuvierove kljunaste kitove u južnom Jadranu i opremiti ih satelitskim odašiljačima te prikupiti uzorke tkiva biopsijom.

"Satelitsko praćenje je moćna metoda koja će nam omogućiti dobivanje ključnih informacija za daljnju zaštitu ove vrste. Ova bića ne poznaju granice pa je bila potrebna međunarodna suradnja kako bi se osigurala najveća vjerojatnost uspjeha istraživanja", rekla je znanstvena koordinatorica istraživanja iz ISPRA-e Caterina Fortuna.

Ovo će biti prvi put da se korištenjem satelitskih odašiljača prati jedna vrsta kitova u Jadranu.

Unatoč tome što se nazivaju "kitovima", Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi pripadaju skupini kitova zubana u koju pripadaju i dupini. Hrane se uglavnom glavonošcima koje love na velikim dubinama, a mogu narasti preko šest metara u duljinu i težiti preko tri tone.

"U Sredozemnom moru, Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi nastanjuju područja gdje dubine obično premašuju 1000 metara. Prisutni su u malom broju i vode prikriveni život. Istraživanja iz zraka su ukazala da južnojadranske vode predstavljaju važno stanište za Cuvierove kljunaste kitove na mediteranskoj razini", istaknula je Fortuna.

Direktor programa znanosti Instituta Plavi svijet Grgur Pleslić rekao je kako su Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi u Jadranu slabo poznata vrsta pod izuzetnim pritiskom brojnih ljudskih aktivnosti na moru.

"Posebno su osjetljivi na buku koju proizvode vojni sonari tijekom mornaričkih vježbi što je u nekoliko navrata dovelo do njihovog masovnog ugibanja i nasukavanja u Sredozemnom moru. S obzirom na sve veću razinu buke u moru, istraživanje kljunastih kitova ključno je za njihovu zaštitu i očuvanje", dodao je Pleslić.

Zabilježeno više skupina Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova i desetak skupina prugastih dupina

Koliko je poznato, Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi ne poduzimaju veće migracije. Stoga se može očekivati da je jadranska populacija povezana s najbližom populacijom u Jonskom moru. Kako bi utvrdili genetičku strukturu i povezanost s drugim dijelovima Sredozemnog mora, znanstvenici će biopsijom uzeti uzorke tkiva za kasniju genetičku analizu, ali i toksikološku analizu.

Osim Cuvierovog kljunastog kita u južnom Jadranu pronalazimo i brojne druge vrste kao što su dobri, prugasti i glavati dupin, ulješura i veliki kit pa će se tijekom ovog istraživanja bilježiti i prisutnost svih ostalih vrsta te će snimati njihovo glasanje. Očekuje se da će ovo istraživanje pružiti ključne podatke za sljedeći krug izvješćivanja prema Okvirnoj direktivi za morsku strategiju (MSFD) za 2024. o statusu očuvanja ove vrste, kažu iz Instituta Plavi svijet.

Iz Plavog svijeta ističu kako su znanstvenici već u prvih nekoliko dana zabilježili više skupina Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova te desetak skupina po 30-40 jedinki prugastih dupina.

Istraživanje se provodi kao dio programa praćenja unutar Okvirne direktive o morskoj strategiji (EU MSFD) koji financira talijansko Ministarstvo zaštite okoliša i energetske sigurnosti i koordinira ISPRA.

U Jadranu je počelo prvo istraživanje Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova, zaštićenih morskih sisavaca čiji je život u Sredozemlju slabo poznat te njihovo obilježavanje satelitskim odašiljačima, a provodi ga međunarodni tim znanstvenika iz Hrvatske i Italije na otvorenom moru južnog Jadrana

Istraživanje je počelo na otvorenom moru južnog Jadrana 5. listopada, a znanstvenici ga provode s 14-metarskog katamarana "Coolway", izvijestili su u petak iz Instituta Plavi svijet iz Velog Lošinja.

Znanstvenici iz Instituta Plavi svijet, Hrvatskog prirodoslovnog muzeja, Zaklade CIMA (Italija) i Talijanskog instituta za zaštitu okoliša i istraživanje (ISPRA) će tijekom listopada pokušati pronaći Cuvierove kljunaste kitove u južnom Jadranu i opremiti ih satelitskim odašiljačima te prikupiti uzorke tkiva biopsijom.

"Satelitsko praćenje je moćna metoda koja će nam omogućiti dobivanje ključnih informacija za daljnju zaštitu ove vrste. Ova bića ne poznaju granice pa je bila potrebna međunarodna suradnja kako bi se osigurala najveća vjerojatnost uspjeha istraživanja", rekla je znanstvena koordinatorica istraživanja iz ISPRA-e Caterina Fortuna.

Ovo će biti prvi put da se korištenjem satelitskih odašiljača prati jedna vrsta kitova u Jadranu.

Unatoč tome što se nazivaju "kitovima", Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi pripadaju skupini kitova zubana u koju pripadaju i dupini. Hrane se uglavnom glavonošcima koje love na velikim dubinama, a mogu narasti preko šest metara u duljinu i težiti preko tri tone.

"U Sredozemnom moru, Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi nastanjuju područja gdje dubine obično premašuju 1000 metara. Prisutni su u malom broju i vode prikriveni život. Istraživanja iz zraka su ukazala da južnojadranske vode predstavljaju važno stanište za Cuvierove kljunaste kitove na mediteranskoj razini", istaknula je Fortuna.

Direktor programa znanosti Instituta Plavi svijet Grgur Pleslić rekao je kako su Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi u Jadranu slabo poznata vrsta pod izuzetnim pritiskom brojnih ljudskih aktivnosti na moru.

"Posebno su osjetljivi na buku koju proizvode vojni sonari tijekom mornaričkih vježbi što je u nekoliko navrata dovelo do njihovog masovnog ugibanja i nasukavanja u Sredozemnom moru. S obzirom na sve veću razinu buke u moru, istraživanje kljunastih kitova ključno je za njihovu zaštitu i očuvanje", dodao je Pleslić.

Zabilježeno više skupina Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova i desetak skupina prugastih dupina

Koliko je poznato, Cuvierovi kljunasti kitovi ne poduzimaju veće migracije. Stoga se može očekivati da je jadranska populacija povezana s najbližom populacijom u Jonskom moru. Kako bi utvrdili genetičku strukturu i povezanost s drugim dijelovima Sredozemnog mora, znanstvenici će biopsijom uzeti uzorke tkiva za kasniju genetičku analizu, ali i toksikološku analizu.

Osim Cuvierovog kljunastog kita u južnom Jadranu pronalazimo i brojne druge vrste kao što su dobri, prugasti i glavati dupin, ulješura i veliki kit pa će se tijekom ovog istraživanja bilježiti i prisutnost svih ostalih vrsta te će snimati njihovo glasanje. Očekuje se da će ovo istraživanje pružiti ključne podatke za sljedeći krug izvješćivanja prema Okvirnoj direktivi za morsku strategiju (MSFD) za 2024. o statusu očuvanja ove vrste, kažu iz Instituta Plavi svijet.

Iz Plavog svijeta ističu kako su znanstvenici već u prvih nekoliko dana zabilježili više skupina Cuvierovih kljunastih kitova te desetak skupina po 30-40 jedinki prugastih dupina.

Istraživanje se provodi kao dio programa praćenja unutar Okvirne direktive o morskoj strategiji (EU MSFD) koji financira talijansko Ministarstvo zaštite okoliša i energetske sigurnosti i koordinira ISPRA.
