Britanski Kraljevski nacionalni institut za spašavanje (RNLI) službeno je proslavio svoj 200. rođendan 4. ožujka. Najveća je to služba za spašavanje koja djeluje na obalama Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva, Republike Irske, Kanalskih otoka i otoka Man, kao i na nekim unutarnjim plovnim putovima, piše yachtingmonthly.com.

Osnovana 1824. kao Nacionalna ustanova za očuvanje života nakon brodoloma, ubrzo nakon toga postala je Kraljevska nacionalna ustanova za očuvanje života nakon brodoloma pod pokroviteljstvom kralja Georgea IV. Tijekom 1854. ime je promijenjenou današnje ime (RNLI), a 1860. godine dobila je kraljevsku povelju.

Većina članova posade čamaca za spašavanje su neplaćeni volonteri.

RNLI ima sjedište u Pooleu, u Dorsetu. Ima 238 stanica za spašavanje i upravlja s 444 broda za spašavanje. RNLI spasioci djeluju na više od 200 plaža: spasioce plaćaju lokalne vlasti, ali RNLI osigurava opremu i obuku. Institucija također upravlja timovima za spašavanje od poplava na nacionalnoj i međunarodnoj razini, a potonji su spremni otputovati u hitne slučajeve u inozemstvo u kratkom roku.

Od 1824. godine posade i spasioci spasilačkih čamaca i brodova organizacije RNLI su spasili najmanje 140.000 života na moru. RNLI je 2021. privukao pažnju javnosti zbog akcija tijekom europske migrantske krize kada su uskočili u pomoć migrantima koji su malim čamcima pokušavali prijeći La Manche.

Ustanova ulaže znatne napore u osposobljavanje i obrazovanje, posebice mladih, pa često provode edukaciju kroz predškolske i školske ustanove.

Zanimljivo je kako se na svakom spasilačkom čamcu nalazi kamera koja snima sve akcije spašavanja. Na YouTubeu objavljuju dramatične snimke iz stvarnih situacija, prikazujući trenutnim pokroviteljima što rade jer se između ostalog financiraju i donacijama. YouTube kanal organizacije RNLI dobije u prosjeku 75.000 pregleda mjesečno i ima 10.000 pretplatnika.

- Hrabrošću i predanošću svojih nevjerojatnih ljudi RNLI je preživio izazove vremena, uključujući tragične gubitke, izazove financiranja, dva svjetska rata i, nedavno, globalnu pandemiju. Doista je izvanredno da je dobrotvorna organizacija preživjela 200 godina na temelju vremena i angažmana volontera, te čiste velikodušnosti javnosti koja je donirala za njezino financiranje - rekao je izvršni direktor RNLI-ja Mark Dowie.

U svojoj dugoj povijesti zabilježili su brojne dramatične akcije a najveće spašavanje RNLI-ja bilo je 17. ožujka 1907., kada je brod SS Suevic od 12.000 tona udario u greben Menheere blizu Lizard Pointa u Cornwallu po jakoj oluji i gustoj magli. Volonteri RNLI čamca za spašavanje tada su spasili 456 putnika, uključujući 70 beba.

Sjećaju se i Fastnet utrka iz 1979. kada su spašavatelji RNLI-a krenuli u uvjetima uragana kako bi spasili mnoge nestale jahte iz flote, spašavajući najmanje 20 jahti i iskrcavajući preživjele. Tada nije bilo GPS-a, ni radijske komunikacije pa je lociranje unesrećenih bilo izuzetno teško. Izgubljeno je pet brodova, utopilo se 15 mornara, a život su izgubila i tri spasioca.

Čak i u prošloj godini, njihovi čamci za spašavanje spasili su više od 3000 ljudi koji su krenuli na opasna putovanja preko La Manchea, a broj prelazaka prelazi 100 tisuća.

Britanski Kraljevski nacionalni institut za spašavanje (RNLI) službeno je proslavio svoj 200. rođendan 4. ožujka. Najveća je to služba za spašavanje koja djeluje na obalama Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva, Republike Irske, Kanalskih otoka i otoka Man, kao i na nekim unutarnjim plovnim putovima, piše yachtingmonthly.com.

Osnovana 1824. kao Nacionalna ustanova za očuvanje života nakon brodoloma, ubrzo nakon toga postala je Kraljevska nacionalna ustanova za očuvanje života nakon brodoloma pod pokroviteljstvom kralja Georgea IV. Tijekom 1854. ime je promijenjenou današnje ime (RNLI), a 1860. godine dobila je kraljevsku povelju.

Većina članova posade čamaca za spašavanje su neplaćeni volonteri.

RNLI ima sjedište u Pooleu, u Dorsetu. Ima 238 stanica za spašavanje i upravlja s 444 broda za spašavanje. RNLI spasioci djeluju na više od 200 plaža: spasioce plaćaju lokalne vlasti, ali RNLI osigurava opremu i obuku. Institucija također upravlja timovima za spašavanje od poplava na nacionalnoj i međunarodnoj razini, a potonji su spremni otputovati u hitne slučajeve u inozemstvo u kratkom roku.

Od 1824. godine posade i spasioci spasilačkih čamaca i brodova organizacije RNLI su spasili najmanje 140.000 života na moru. RNLI je 2021. privukao pažnju javnosti zbog akcija tijekom europske migrantske krize kada su uskočili u pomoć migrantima koji su malim čamcima pokušavali prijeći La Manche.

Zanimljivo je kako se na svakom spasilačkom čamcu nalazi kamera koja snima sve akcije spašavanja. Na YouTubeu objavljuju dramatične snimke iz stvarnih situacija, prikazujući trenutnim pokroviteljima što rade jer se između ostalog financiraju i donacijama. YouTube kanal organizacije RNLI dobije u prosjeku 75.000 pregleda mjesečno i ima 10.000 pretplatnika.

- Hrabrošću i predanošću svojih nevjerojatnih ljudi RNLI je preživio izazove vremena, uključujući tragične gubitke, izazove financiranja, dva svjetska rata i, nedavno, globalnu pandemiju. Doista je izvanredno da je dobrotvorna organizacija preživjela 200 godina na temelju vremena i angažmana volontera, te čiste velikodušnosti javnosti koja je donirala za njezino financiranje - rekao je izvršni direktor RNLI-ja Mark Dowie.

U svojoj dugoj povijesti zabilježili su brojne dramatične akcije a najveće spašavanje RNLI-ja bilo je 17. ožujka 1907., kada je brod SS Suevic od 12.000 tona udario u greben Menheere blizu Lizard Pointa u Cornwallu po jakoj oluji i gustoj magli. Volonteri RNLI čamca za spašavanje tada su spasili 456 putnika, uključujući 70 beba.

Sjećaju se i Fastnet utrka iz 1979. kada su spašavatelji RNLI-a krenuli u uvjetima uragana kako bi spasili mnoge nestale jahte iz flote, spašavajući najmanje 20 jahti i iskrcavajući preživjele. Tada nije bilo GPS-a, ni radijske komunikacije pa je lociranje unesrećenih bilo izuzetno teško. Izgubljeno je pet brodova, utopilo se 15 mornara, a život su izgubila i tri spasioca.

Čak i u prošloj godini, njihovi čamci za spašavanje spasili su više od 3000 ljudi koji su krenuli na opasna putovanja preko La Manchea, a broj prelazaka prelazi 100 tisuća.
